Determining Beginning Date of Ramadan 2025 / 1446H
The beginning of the month of Ramadan, as well as the end of the month, is determined by sighting the crescent. If the crescent was not sighted, then the month would be completed by thirty days, as is the case with determining all the months of the lunar calendar. This is taken from the Hadîth of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلّم related by Al-Bukhâriyy and Muslim: « لا تَقَدَّمُوا رَمَضانَ بِيَومٍ أَوْ يَومَين صُوموا لرؤيتِه وأفطِرُوا لرُؤيتِه فإنْ غُمَّ علَيكم فأكْمِلوا عِدَّةَ شَعبانَ ثلاثينَ يوما », which means: « Do not fast one or two days before Ramaḍān. Start the month when you see the crescent, and end it when you see the crescent. If you are blocked from seeing it, then complete thirty days of Shaʿbân. »

Acts and Benefits during Ramadan
Ramaḍân, the month of the Qur’ân, the month of repentance, the month when we renounce worldly pleasures and hold ourselves in check, the month when the soul is at peace, the month of Qur’ân recitation, of nightly worship and many good deeds. So rush to fill your days and yourselves with obedience to Allâh for whoever does not fill his spare time with what he seeks to benefit himself, his free time will occupy him with what he does not seek.

How to fast the month of Ramadan. Integrals & Invalidators of Fasting
The obligation on the believers of fasting Ramaḍân is known from the Qur’ân and the Hadîth. It was explicitly stated in Verse 183 of Surat Al-Baqarah: {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ} which means: « O believers, Fasting is an obligation upon you as it was ordained upon the (Muslim nations) before you–to help you become pious. » Fasting was an obligation upon the nations before the nation of Prophet Muḥammad peace to be upon him, however, fasting the month of Ramaḍân in particular is a specification for the nation of Prophet Muḥammad peace to be upon him only.

The beginning of the month of Ṣafar 1448 is on Thursday, July 16, 2026 According to ʿAbdu l-Lāh son of Hichām: The companions of the Messenger of Allāh learned this invocation that they said when a new year or a new month began: « اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَجِوَارٍ (أيْ حِفْظٍ) مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ » Which means: « O Allāh, let his arrival be accompanied by safety and faith, protection and Islam, approval from Ar-Raḥmān, and preservation against the chayṭān ».

Laylatu l-Qadr Night of Greatness Night of Destiny
The month of Ramadan, which is the best of the year, has the best night of the year: Al-Qadr night. It’s the best of the year, as the day of ʿArafah is the best of the year. Middle of Month of Shaʿbân. Night of 15 Shaban
The Prophet said: « إذا كانت ليلةُ النصفِ من شعبانَ فقوموا ليلَها وصُوموا نهارها » which means: « Spend the night preceding the 15th day of Shaʿbân in acts of obedience, and fast the next day. » The night of the middle-Shaban is a blessed night.
