Muslim Citadel Protection Evocations and Invocations

Praise be to God the Creator of the world, the One Who exists without beginning, without end, without location, without a "how" and Who does not depend on time. Nothing resembles Him in anyway and He hears and sees everything without organs. Whatever you imagine, God is different from that. May the elevation in degree and preservation of his community of what he fears for it, be granted to our master Muḥammad Al-‘Amin, the Honest One, who called for following Islam, the religion of truth, the religion of all the Prophets: of the First, Adam, to the last Muḥammad.

Invocations and Evocations (‘ADHKAR) Reported from the Messenger of Allâh to Recite Morning and Evening: the one who says them is protected and nothing harms him, by the will of Allâh. To be protected against sorcery, the evil eye, the nuisance of jinns ...

Allāhou Allāhou rabbî lâ 'ouchrikou bihi chay'â

Houwa l-Lâhou l-ladhî lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ houwa `Ālimou l-ghaybi wa ch-chahâdati houwa r-Raḥmânou r-Raḥîm (22) Houwa l-Lâhou l-ladhî lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ houwa l-Malikou l-Qouddôuçou s-Salâmou l-Mou'minou l-Mouhayminou l-`Azîzou l-Jabbârou l-Moutakabbir, soubḥâna l-Lâhi `ammâ youchrikôun (23) Houwa l-Lâhou l-Khâliqou l-Bâri'ou l-Mouṣawwirou, lahou l-'asmâ'ou l-Ḥousnâ, youçabbiḥou lahoū mâ fi s-samâwâti wa l-'arḍi wa houwa l-`Azîzou l-Ḥakîm (24) [le matin et le soir]

The Messenger of Allāh ṣalla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam said to a companion:

('iqra' qoul houwa l-Lâhou 'aḥad wa l-mou`awwidhatayn ḥîna toumsî wa ḥîna touṣbiḥ thalâtha marrâtin takfîka min koulli chay')

which means: « Recite qoul houwa l-Lâhou 'aḥad and the mou`awwidhatân, three times, morning and evening, they will be enough for you to protect yourself from anything that could harm you ». [related by Abū Dâwūd]. For protection, we therefore recite three times each morning and each evening the following three surat:

Bismi l-Lâhi r-Raḥmâni r-Raḥîm

Bismi l-Lâhi r-Raḥmâni r-Raḥîm

Qoul 'a`ôudhou birabbi l-falaq (1) min charri mâ khalaq (2) wa min charri ghâciqin 'idhâ waqab (3) wa min charri n-naffâthâti fi l-`ouqad (4) wa min charri ḥâcidin 'idhâ ḥaçad (5) (3 fois)

Bismi l-Lâhi r-Raḥmâni r-Raḥîm

('a`ôudhou bikalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti al-latî lâ youjâwizouhounna barroun wa lâ fâjir min charri mâ yanzilou mina s-samâ'i wa mâ ya`roujou fîhâ wa min charri mâ dhara'a fi l-'arḍi wa mâ yakhroujou minhâ wa min charri fitani l-layli wa n-nahâr wa min charri koulli ṭâriqin 'illâ ṭâriqan yaṭrouqou bikhayrin yâ Raḥmân)

Invocation to keep the jinn away (morning and evening):

('a`ôudhou bikalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti min ghaḍabihi wa `iqâbihi wa charri `ibâdihi wa min hamazâti ch-chayâṭîn wa 'an yaḥḍourôun)

Invocation Against Evil Eye:

('a`ôudhou bi kalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmah min koulli chayṭânin wa hâmmah wa min koulli `aynin lâmmah)

(Allāhoumma dha s-soulṭâni l-`aḍhîm wa l-manni l-qadîm dha r-raḥmati l-karîm waliya l-kalimâti t-tâmmâti wa d-da`awâti l-moustajâbât `âfinî min 'anfousi l-jinni wa 'a`youni l-'ins)

Al-Hassan and Al-Houssayn, the grandsons of the Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou `alayhi wa sallam, were afflicted with the evil eye. The Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhou `alayhi wa sallam was saddened. The angel Jibrîl `alayhi s-salâm then came to him and taught him a rouqyah. He taught him to make them a rouqyah with the following words:

(Allāhoumma dha s-soulṭâni l-`aḍhîm, wa l-manni l-qadîm, dha r-raḥmati l-karîm, waliyya l-kalimâti t-tâmmâti wa d-da`awâti l-moustajâbât, `âfi Ḥaçanan wa Ḥouçaynan min 'anfouci l-jinni wa 'a`youni l-'ins)

Note: one can recite this invocation to protect oneself against the evil eye, and in this case, one says: (Allâhoumma dha s-soulTâni l-`ADHîm, wa l-manni l-qadîm, dha r-raHmati l -karîm, waliyya l-kalimâti t-tammmâti wa d-da`awâti l-moustajâbât, `âfinî min 'anfousi l-jinni wa' a`youni l-'ins) To recite this invocation for a person [to preserve it from evil eye, and also for the one who was hit by the evil eye], we replace the word (`âfinî) by (` âfi) and we quote the name of the person we want to protect; for a woman we say: (`âfihâ).

Invocation Against Sorcery (to be delivered from sorcery):

('a`ôudhou biwajhi l-Lâhi l-`aḍhîm al-ladhî layça chay'oun 'a`ḍhama minhou wa bi 'asmâ'i lLâhi l-Ḥousnâ mâ `alimtou minhâ wa mâ lam 'a`lam wa bi kalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti min charri mâ khalaqa wa dhara'a wa bara'a)

Invocation to be preserved (preservation)

(Bismi l-Lâh, rabbiya l-Lâh, ḥasbiya l-Lâh, tawakkaltou `ala l-Lâh, 'i`taṣamtou bi l-Lâh, fawwaḍtou 'amrî 'ila l-Lâh, mâ châ'a l-Lâh, lâ qouwwata 'illâ bi l-Lâh)

Anas Ibnou Mâlik reported from the Messenger of Allâh ṣalla l-Lâhou `alayhi wa sallam this invocation:

(Allāhoumma 'innî 'ouch-hidouka wa 'ouch-hidou ḥamalata `archik wa malâ'ikataka wa jamî`a khalqika 'annaka 'anta l-Lâh lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ 'anta waḥdaka lâ charîka lak wa 'anna Mouḥammadan `abdouka wa raçôulouk)

which means: « O Allâh, You know and I take as witness the angels who carry the Throne as well as all Your angels and all Your creatures: that You are Allâh and that there is no god but You, You alone You have not of partner and that MouHammad is Your slave and Your messenger » [to recite four times morning and evening].

God does not need the throne or the angels or any creatures. Imam `Aliyy, may Allāh reward his deeds, said:

which means: « Allāh exists eternally without place and He is now as He is from all eternity » that is to say without place, and he said:

which means: « Allâh created the Throne (`Arsh) as an indication of His Power and did not take it as a place for Himself. », [related by Abôu Manṣôur Al-Baghdâdiyy].

Thus the one who assigns the place or the direction to God is not Muslim and he must return to Islam by pronouncing the two testimonies having abandoned the bad belief.

Invocation related by al-Boukhâriyy, Abôu dâwôud and at-tirmîdhiyy:

(bismi l-Lâhi l-ladhî lâ yaḍourrou ma`asmihi chay'oun fi l-'arḍi wa lâ fi s-samâ' wa houwa s-Samî`ou l-`Alîm)

which means: « I begin with the name of Allâh, with His name nothing harms, neither on earth nor in heaven (and everything that takes place on earth and in heaven, takes place according to His will) and He is the One Who hears (without organ) and He is the One Who knows everything » [to recite three times morning and evening].

(raḍîtou bi l-Lâhi rabbâ wa bi l-'islâmi dînâ wa bi Mouḥammadin nabiyyâ)

which means: « I am satisfied that Allāh is my Lord, Islam my religion and Muhammad my Prophet » [to be recited three times morning and evening].

(Ḥasbiya l-Lâhou lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ hôu `alayhi tawakkaltou wa houwa rabbou l-`archi l-`aḍhîm)

which means: « Allâh is enough for me. There is no god but Him. I totally trust Him and He is the eminent Lord of the Throne » [to be recited seven times morning and evening]. It has been said about this invocation, that it is a cause to be preserved from the torments of this life and the hereafter.

(yâ Ḥayyou yâ Qayyôumou bi raḥmatika 'astaghîth 'aṣliḥ lî cha'nî koullah wa lâ takilnî 'ilâ nafsî ṭarfata `ayn)

which means: « O You who are alive, O You for Whom annihilation is impossible, I seek reinforcement by Your mercy, correct my condition completely, and do that I do not follow the bad inclinations of my soul, not even the time of a wink » [to recite three times morning and evening].

Invocation for healing (when the person is sick):

('a`ôudhou bi`izzati l-Lâhi wa qoudratihi min charri mâ 'ajidou wa 'ouḥâdhir) {7 times}

('ou`îdhouka[i] bi`izzati l-Lâhi wa qoudratihi min charri mâ tajidou[îna] wa touḥâdhir[în]) (quand on fait cela à une autre personne)

[Invocation reported by the angel Jibrîl `alayhi s-salâm] One can recite for someone who is sick:

(bismi l-Lâhi 'arqîka, min koulli chay'in you'dhîka min charri koulli nafsin 'aw `ayni ḥâçidin, Allāhou yachfîka, bismi l-Lâhi 'arqîk)

For a woman we say: « 'arqîki », « you’dhîki », « yachfîki ».

It is a rouqyah which is useful for those who are sick and those who have been bewitched as well.

The recitation of the two mou`awwidhât after each prayer is a strong protection [and also a cause not to fall into laziness and it is a cause to repel the evil of the enemies]. The two mou`awwidhât are the last two Qur'ân surates, that is, Al-Falaq and An-Nâs. These are invocations of protection for the person and for other than him.

Verses ('âyah) for healing:

(thoumma koulî min koulli th-thamarâti fasloukî souboula rabbiki dhouloulan yakhroujou min bouṭôunihâ charâboun moukhtalifoun alwânouhou fîhi chifâ' linnâçi 'inna fî dhâlika la'âyatan liqawmin yatafakkarôun)

[سورة الإسراء] وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاء وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلاَ يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إَلاَّ خَسَارًا {82}

[سورة التوبة] قَاتِلُوهُمْ يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللّهُ بِأَيْدِيكُمْ وَيُخْزِهِمْ وَيَنصُرْكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَيَشْفِ صُدُورَ قَوْمٍ مُّؤْمِنِينَ {14}

Verse ('âyah) for preservation and repelling nuisance

(afaḥaçibtoum 'annamâ khalaqnâkoum `abathâ wa 'annakoum 'ilaynâ lâ tourja`ôun)
