Muslim Citadel Protection Evocations and Invocations

Praise be to God the Creator of the world, the One Who exists without beginning, without end, without location, without a "how" and Who does not depend on time. Nothing resembles Him in anyway and He hears and sees everything without organs. Whatever you imagine, God is different from that. May the elevation in degree and preservation of his community of what he fears for it, be granted to our master Muḥammad Al-‘Amin, the Honest One, who called for following Islam, the religion of truth, the religion of all the Prophets: of the First, Adam, to the last Muḥammad.

Invocations and Evocations (‘ADHKAR) Reported from the Messenger of Allâh to Recite Morning and Evening: the one who says them is protected and nothing harms him, by the will of Allâh. To be protected against sorcery, the evil eye, the nuisance of jinns ...

To be protected against sorcery, the evil eye, the nuisance of jinns and to say in different situations .. It is a condition to know how to pronounce correctly, therefore it is necessary to learn how to recite correctly.

Allāhu Allāhu rabbî lâ 'ushriku bihi shay'â

('A`ûdhou bi l-Lâhi s-Samî`i l-`Alîmi mina sh-shayṭâni r-rajîm) [3 times]

Huwa l-Lâhu l-ladhî lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ huwa `Ālimu l-ghaybi wa sh-shahâdati huwa r-Raḥmânu r-Raḥîm (22) Huwa l-Lâhu l-ladhî lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ huwa l-Maliku l-Quddûsu s-Salâmu l-Mu'minu l-Muhayminu l-`Azîzu l-Jabbâru l-Mutakabbir, subḥâna l-Lâhi `ammâ yushrikûn (23) Huwa l-Lâhu l-Khâliqu l-Bâri'u l-Muṣawwiru, lahou l-'asmâ'u l-Ḥusnâ, yusabbiḥu lahū mâ fi s-samâwâti wa l-'arḍi wa huwa l-`Azîzu l-Ḥakîm (24) [Morning and Evening]

The Messenger of Allāh ṣalla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam said to a companion:

('iqra' qul huwa l-Lâhu 'aḥad wa l-mu`awwidhatayn ḥîna tumsî wa ḥîna tuṣbiḥ thalâtha marrâtin takfîka min kulli shay')

which means: « Recite qul huwa l-Lâhu 'aḥad and the mu`awwidhatân, three times, morning and evening, they will be enough for you to protect yourself from anything that could harm you ». [related by Abū Dâwūd]. For protection, we therefore recite three times each morning and each evening the following three surat:

Bismi l-Lâhi r-Raḥmâni r-Raḥîm

('a`ûdhu bikalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti al-latî lâ yujâwizuhunna barrun wa lâ fâjir min sharri mâ yanzilu mina s-samâ'i wa mâ ya`ruju fîhâ wa min sharri mâ dhara'a fi l-'arḍi wa mâ yakhruju minhâ wa min sharri fitani l-layli wa n-nahâr wa min sharri kulli ṭâriqin 'illâ ṭâriqan yaṭruqu bikhayrin yâ Raḥmân)

Invocation to keep the jinn away (morning and evening):

('a`ûdhu bikalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti min ghaḍabihi wa `iqâbihi wa sharri `ibâdihi wa min hamazâti sh-shayâṭîn wa 'an yaḥḍurûn)

Invocation Against Evil Eye:

('a`ûdhu bi kalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmah min kulli shayṭânin wa hâmmah wa min kulli `aynin lâmmah)

(Allāhumma dha s-sulṭâni l-`aḍhîm wa l-manni l-qadîm dha r-raḥmati l-karîm waliya l-kalimâti t-tâmmâti wa d-da`awâti l-mustajâbât `âfinî min 'anfusi l-jinni wa 'a`yuni l-'ins)

Al-Hassan and Al-Hussayn, the grandsons of the Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam, were afflicted with the evil eye. The Messenger of Allâh Salla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam was saddened. The angel Jibrîl `alayhi s-salâm then came to him and taught him a ruqyah. He taught him to make them a ruqyah with the following words:

(Allāhumma dha s-sulṭâni l-`aḍhîm, wa l-manni l-qadîm, dha r-raḥmati l-karîm, waliyya l-kalimâti t-tâmmâti wa d-da`awâti l-mustajâbât, `âfi Ḥaçanan wa Ḥuçaynan min 'anfuci l-jinni wa 'a`yuni l-'ins)

Note: one can recite this invocation to protect oneself against the evil eye, and in this case, one says: (Allâhoumma dha s-sulTâni l-`ADHîm, wa l-manni l-qadîm, dha r-raHmati l -karîm, waliyya l-kalimâti t-tammmâti wa d-da`awâti l-mustajâbât, `âfinî min 'anfusi l-jinni wa' a`yuni l-'ins) To recite this invocation for a person [to preserve it from evil eye, and also for the one who was hit by the evil eye], we replace the word (`âfinî) by (` âfi) and we quote the name of the person we want to protect; for a woman we say: (`âfihâ).

Invocation Against Sorcery (to be delivered from sorcery):

('a`ûdhu biwajhi l-Lâhi l-`aḍhîm al-ladhî laysa shay'un 'a`ḍhama minhu wa bi 'asmâ'i lLâhi l-Ḥusnâ mâ `alimtu minhâ wa mâ lam 'a`lam wa bi kalimâti l-Lâhi t-tâmmâti min sharri mâ khalaqa wa dhara'a wa bara'a)

Invocation to be preserved (preservation)

(Bismi l-Lâh, rabbiya l-Lâh, ḥasbiya l-Lâh, tawakkaltu `ala l-Lâh, 'i`taṣamtu bi l-Lâh, fawwaḍtu 'amrî 'ila l-Lâh, mâ shâ'a l-Lâh, lâ quwwata 'illâ bi l-Lâh)

Anas Ibnu Mâlik reported from the Messenger of Allâh ṣalla l-Lâhu `alayhi wa sallam this invocation:

(Allāhumma 'innî 'ush-hiduka wa 'ush-hidu ḥamalata `arshik wa malâ'ikataka wa jamî`a khalqika 'annaka 'anta l-Lâh lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ 'anta waḥdaka lâ sharîka lak wa 'anna Muḥammadan `abduka wa rasûluk)

which means: « O Allâh, You know and I take as witness the angels who carry the Throne as well as all Your angels and all Your creatures: that You are Allâh and that there is no god but You, You alone without a partner and that MuHammad is Your slave and Your messenger » [to recite four times morning and evening].

God does not need the throne or the angels or any creatures. Imam `Aliyy, may Allāh reward his deeds, said:

which means: « Allāh exists eternally without place and He is now as He is from all eternity » that is to say without place, and he said:

which means: « Allâh created the Throne (`Arsh) as an indication of His Power and did not take it as a place for Himself. », [related by Abû Manṣûr Al-Baghdâdiyy].

Thus the one who assigns the place or the direction to God is not Muslim and he must return to Islam by pronouncing the two testimonies having abandoned the bad belief.

Invocation related by al-Bukhâriyy, Abû dâwûd and at-tirmîdhiyy:

(bismi l-Lâhi l-ladhî lâ yaḍurru ma`asmihi shay'un fi l-'arḍi wa lâ fi s-samâ' wa huwa s-Samî`u l-`Alîm)

which means: « I begin with the name of Allâh, with His name nothing harms, neither on earth nor in heaven (and everything that takes place on earth and in heaven, takes place according to His will) and He is the One Who hears (without organ) and He is the One Who knows everything » [to recite three times morning and evening].

(raḍîtu bi l-Lâhi rabbâ wa bi l-'islâmi dînâ wa bi Muḥammadin nabiyyâ)

which means: « I am satisfied that Allāh is my Lord, Islam my religion and Muhammad my Prophet » [to be recited three times morning and evening].

(Ḥasbiya l-Lâhu lâ 'ilâha 'il-lâ hû `alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbu l-`arshi l-`aḍhîm)

which means: « Allâh is enough for me. There is no god but Him. I totally trust Him and He is the eminent Lord of the Throne » [to be recited seven times morning and evening]. It has been said about this invocation, that it is a cause to be preserved from the torments of this life and the hereafter.

(yâ Ḥayyu yâ Qayyûmu bi raḥmatika 'astaghîth 'aṣliḥ lî sha'nî kullah wa lâ takilnî 'ilâ nafsî ṭarfata `ayn)

which means: « O You who are alive, O You for Whom annihilation is impossible, I seek reinforcement by Your mercy, correct my condition completely, and do that I do not follow the bad inclinations of my soul, not even the time of a wink » [to recite three times morning and evening].

Invocation for healing (when the person is sick):

('a`ûdhu bi`izzati l-Lâhi wa qudratihi min sharri mâ 'ajidu wa 'uḥâdhir) {7 times}

('u`îdhuka[i] bi`izzati l-Lâhi wa qudratihi min sharri mâ tajidu[îna] wa tuḥâdhir[în]) (when reciting for another person)

[Invocation reported by the angel Jibrîl `alayhi s-salâm] One can recite for someone who is sick:

(bismi l-Lâhi 'arqîka, min kulli shay'in yu'dhîka min sharri kulli nafsin 'aw `ayni ḥâsidin, Allāhu yashfîka, bismi l-Lâhi 'arqîk)

For a woman we say: « 'arqîki », « yu’dhîki », « yashfîki ».

It is a ruqyah which is useful for those who are sick and those who have been bewitched as well.

The recitation of the two mu`awwidhât after each prayer is a strong protection [and also a cause not to fall into laziness and it is a cause to repel the evil of the enemies]. The two mu`awwidhât are the last two surat of the Qur'ân, that is, Al-Falaq and An-Nâs. These are invocations of protection for the person and for other than him.

Verses ('âyah) for healing:
